Midnight Hour
I happened to catch tonight’s episode of Ghost Whisperer — Curse of the Ninth, and fell in love with this beautiful song “Running Away” by Midnight Hour. I don’t usually listen to band songs (Diappy and Tortoise appreciates bands more than I do), but I seriously fell in love with the song as I was listening to it the first time. Maybe it was also partly due to the story? I was crying and a mess. Haha.
Anyway, the song comes on just before the end…
Synopsis of Story
When Melinda meets a nightclub waiter, Brandon, who has not played his guitar since his friend, Jared, died in a plane crash, she finds that he is being haunted by two ghosts. One is his father who, when he was alive, “forced” Brandon to learn classical music (The father was from a symphonic orchestra I think). The other ghost is Jared, his best friend who introduced him to rock music and they formed a band called “Crimson Doves”. Brandon then fell out with his dad who passed away later on.
Since Jared’s death, everytime Brandon tries to perform or play his music, something will happen to wreck and stop him playing. Brandon thinks it’s a curse and originally thought it was his father who was stopping him from pursuing his interest. Later on, it was revealed that the one wrecking havoc was Jared and Brandon’s dad was only trying to stop Jared, without success. Jared had a girlfriend called Sandy and it happens that Brandon had written the song “Running Away” for her — which led to a quarrel between Jared and Brandon. The song was meant to have been included in their debut album as the tenth track (Jared was strongly against it), but after Jared’s death, Brandon destroyed all copies of the song…
Midnight Hour, Three Days Grace and J.C. Chasez guest stars.
About Midnight Hour
In the summer of 2005 a mutual friend introduced Brad Lodge (vocals) to Tim Johnson (guitar), Jared Michell (bass), James Mitchell (guitar) and Dan Ardis (drums). Tim, Jared, James and Dan had been working together as a band for a few years. During that time Brad was attending music school in Boston and performing charity work in Africa. It didn’t take long before they realized the five of them shared a special chemistry created by their mutual passion for music and intense work ethic.
Anyway, I really love Brad Lodge’s voice and he makes singing look so effortless (Oh the falsettos… So beautiful!). And he looks like Clay Aiken’s brother to me. Haha! I love how the band sounds together too! If you want to see what the band looks like, here’s the real band with their recording of “Running Away”.
Running Away by Midnight Hour
Don’t lie and say that it’s OK.
It’s alright here, there’s nothing more to say.
So I’m running away.
I’m leaving this place.
Yeah, I’m running away.
I’m running away.
Don’t tell me, I don’t want to play.
It’s too late for you to make me stay.
No, I won’t stay.
So I’m running away.
I’m leaving this place.
Yeah, I’m running away.
I’m running away.
And faster than you can follow me from this lonely place.
And farther than you can find me, I’m leaving
Yeah I’m leaving today.
And I, I’ll never let you find me.
I’m leaving you behind with the past
No, I won’t look back.
And I don’t want to hear your reasons.
Don’t want to hear you tell me why I should stay.
And try, and try to understand me
And try to understand what I say when I say I can’t stay
I, I’m moving on from this place
I’m leaving and I won’t quit running away.
I’m running away.
I’m leaving this place.
Yeah, I’m running away.
I’m running away.

Wow, Brad Lodge is really quite the performer, thanks for sharing.
It’s great when singers sing their songs very intensely, I find.
This song is also sung quite intensely, though, it isn’t like “Running Away” where one would fall in love with it straight away :)
